Rough Day for my Sweetie

Natalie got a goldfish at preschool on Tuesday and immediately began taking such good care of it. She would tell it things that she had done and was about to do. She would even sing to it and tell it stories. She developed a love for the little guy over a period of only 24 hours. And then, the fish stopped eating and started slowing down and finally laid on its side. The poor thing only lived a day at our house. I blame it on my poor luck at keeping animals. My family has a whole farm waiting for us in heaven from our growing up days.

But Natalie took it so hard. She couldn't stop crying. We'd try to change the subject by talking about happy things, but she would always revert back to the fact that the fish had died and ask "why did it die?"

This same day, Natalie had gotten three shots in preparation for kindergarten and was told that her friend Jett would be moving away in a few months. She took the shots like a champ and didn't even shed a tear. She cried a bit after learning about her friend moving, but the poor girl had a breakdown after the fish died. It was the last straw maybe, but she was so attached to it. She asked Heavenly Father that night in her prayers to take good care of her goldfish, and that seemed to console her a bit, but I think she still cried herself to sleep. She really does have a tender heart. Natalie has always had a love for animals. Rob and I are not animal people, but we are trying to reach a middle ground with her by looking into becoming fish owners--yes--even after killing ours off in ONE day.

Oh, that is so sad! Poor Natalie. Goldfish are so hard to keep alive, so even 24 hours is an accomplishment.
