A Bittersweet Day

Today was my last day to host preschool at our house, which means that the preschool year is quickly coming to an end and my little girl will soon be a kindergartner.  She has become so much more independent this past year in so many ways, which has come as a big relief to her mother, but at the same time, I just want to freeze her at this age forever and not let her grow up.

Preschool has been so good for her-mainly socially-but also intellectually.  I'm just having a hard time coming to grips with the fact that things are going to change really quickly after this summer.  She will go to kindergarten all day and become my "big girl".  After her fifth birthday a few weeks ago, she has been acting so "mature".  She woke up that day and told me "Mom, I'm a big five year old!".  And whenever I call her my "baby girl", she quickly reminds me that she is a big five year old girl now.  I think her mommy is going to be the one crying on her first day of kindergarten.

My theme today was "bugs and spiders".  I decided to focus mainly on caterpillars and the life cycle of a butterfly.  So the kids acted out the different phases of the life cycle and then made their own caterpillars with marshmallows that I pre-dyed.  Then for storytime we read "The Hungry Caterpillar", "The Grumpy Ladybug", and "Miss Spider's Tea Party".  All are really great books.  And for singing time, we sang "The Ants Go Marching".  Then for snacks, the kids got to eat "caterpillar food"-food that the hungry caterpillar ate in the book-such as cheese, apple slices and bananas.  It was lots of fun!  I'm going to miss hosting preschool.  We've had such a fun group of kids this year.

Blake made one too

Caleb had a blast today! You are so good at hosting. You always make it so much fun. It was cute, when Natalie saw me today, she growled and said "I don't like when moms come over". I asked her why and she said "because you take my friends home". It made me laugh. She has grown up so much! She will love kindergarten. Preschool has been so good for Caleb too. He LOVES it and will be so sad when it's over. We need to do midweek activities during the summer so they still get to be together.

How cute! Lucky kids to have you be their pre-school teacher. You did a really good job it looks like.
