A Friendship

I visit teach a dear 83 year old woman. The first time I called her to set up an appointment, she sounded curt and unfriendly, and I was unsure of how the visit would go. After seeing her and talking to her for the first time, I couldn't have been more wrong in my first impression. She is such a sweet and caring woman. She greets me each time I come and go with a heart-felt hug. She is always concerned about how I am doing. When I ask her what I can do for her, she always responds with "Nothing at all. You just take care of your family."

I admire her for her love of the gospel and the Lord. She always has a well-read copy of the Ensign on her table and a general conference tape in the player. She is dedicated in her temple attendance, even though she has so many good excuses not to go.

She is such a Christ-like example to me. This sweet woman cares for her two great-grandchildren whose mother is not stable enough to have custody.

I have come to love and respect her and I consider her my dear friend. On my last visit, I received a gift from her. She told me that she can't wear it anymore and wanted me to have it. It's a real turquoise and silver concho belt. I just think it's beautiful and it is precious to me knowing that it came from her.

I love it! I absolutely love it! That is so cute! You should wear it, you know, like maybe over your jean dress that you have? Would that look good? Lucky you.

That is so awesome! Who is it? My sister visit taught a woman named Millie who is in here 90's and said she was her favorite by far! We can learn a lot from women who have years under their belt. What a sweetheart for giving you such a lovely gift.

Bri-her name is Betty. She comes to church every week, but she's pretty quiet, so you may not have noticed her. She usually sits with another older lady during the meetings. She's such a sweet lady.
