It was really cold right up next to the falls, but it was a beautiful day. We stayed one night at a nice hotel that had its own waterfall that people could bike or walk to. We got up early the next morning, rented some bikes, and rode to the falls. The trail was adjacent to a beautiful canal. There was still snow on the trail for some parts of the ride, so we had to jump off our bikes and walk.
Then, a week later, we went white water rafting with Rob's parents and his brother Michael on the Toloemne river. It was a two day river trip. We had wonderful river guides who got us safely down the river and made delicious food for us at the camp site and on mealtime breaks. Who knew you could eat so well in the middle of a river? I certainly didn't. We got to sleep under the stars for a night and then we rafted the second half of the river the next morning. We camped near a waterfall so we coul have a good view of what we would be going down the next morning. When our raft got to the top of the waterfall, our guide told us all to get down, so we all squatted low in the raft and braced ourselves while we went off. It was so much fun! We all wanted to do it again. Our guide said it was a perfect run because we didn't even have to paddle during it. There were a few rough spots on the river where we all nearly fell out, but we survived. Overall, we had a wonderful time rafting. We can't wait to go again sometime!
